Thank You Cards

Hello blogging friends. It has been a while since I have posted. I hopefully can make up for it by the amount of cards I am posting right now.

I was asked to make thank you cards for someone special. I was honored to even be asked. They could have asked someone else if they had wanted, but for some reason they chose me. Yeah!!

I am not going to go into details of how these were made. I was asked to keep them simple. I have tried to do that. The way I started off was to pick out designer series paper I liked and then the cardstock that matched it. I cut the card base and then the designer series paper however I wanted it to fit onto the card base. I did this for all of the cards before I even started gluing or adding embellishments. Once that was done, I went ahead and glued the designer series paper to the cardstock along with ribbon. After that I have added the embellishments. It has went very quickly. For me, that is saying something. I take a long time to make cards. Hmm......maybe I am finally getting faster at it.

I hope that you enjoy looking at them. I will be posting some more, maybe tomorrow. I have some more to finish up.

I used a lot of retired designer series paper to make these cards. Some of you may have some of it on hand too. Everything used is Stampin' Up! products.

Please tell me which is your favorite card. The cards look much better in person than on here. I may have to figure out another way of taking pictures. These will do for now though.

Christmas Card

I was finally able to get my basement warm enough to make up a card yesterday. I guess that is the biggest negative about having my stamping area in the basement. It is the biggest area for it though.

I ended up making a card totally different than what I had in my mind. I was going to make a card with the sizzix snowflake #2 die, but this is what I ended up creating instead. I really like using the 5 petal flower punch to make poinsettia flowers. I made them one other time, about a year ago, to decorate a bottle.

I used the shimmer paint for the very first time in this project (It is on the handsome hunter background). I have been wanting to do it for a while, but kept putting it off. It works so easily and it is very fast to make. In case you are wondering how to do it. You need a mini spray bottle, shimmer paint ( I used champagne mist #116806), and rubbing alcohol. I filled the mini spray bottle to about 1/2 inch from the top. Then I just poured from the shimmer paint slowly. You do not need very much of it. Some people say about 6 drops. Well, mine did not drip, it poured out. Who knows maybe I didn't do something right. I bought the shimmer paint from the holiday mini catalog, which is only good until January 4th. If you haven't bought any and would like to, you need to hurry before time is up. You can always go to my Stampin' Up! website and purchase it if you would like. You can get to it from here.

I wanted you to see a close up of the poinsettia flowers and how they stand out, as well as, a picture of the whole card. It is made to look like a gift box. I used two of my favorite colors to make this card, handsome hunter and bravo burgundy. I still have to say that the rich regals are still my favorite color family. The one I still have never been able to really say I like is bold brights, but that is all right. I know that a lot of other people love those colors and that is great. We balance each other out, right?

I will now give you the recipe for this card (All Stampin' Up! products). I used lots of different things to make it. I am pleased with the end result.

Stamps: priceless, Christmas punch (hostess set), and delightful decorations
Cardstock: handsome hunter, bravo burgundy, and very vanilla
Ink: bravo burgundy and handsome hunter
Tools: big shot, petals a plenty textured folder (holiday mini), 5 petal flower punch, 1/16" hole punch, crimping tool, paper piercing tool, scallop straight edge punch, small and large tag punches, and boho blossoms punch
Accessories: vintage brads and champagne mist shimmer paint (holiday mini)

Ohio State Tri Shutter Card

I am so glad I finally have something new made up to put on here. My daughter's fiance's brother and sister-in-law just had a baby. I wanted to make them a tri-shutter card similar to the one I had made for my daughter's baby when he was born. This couple loves Ohio State. I don't have anything Ohio State in this except for the colors I used. I hope they will like it when they get it.
I wanted to let you see more than one view of this. One is if you stretch it out and the other is when you are starting to close it.

The hardest part of making this was deciding how I was going to fit "Thomas" in. I didn't like it when I had the letter on the very front. That is why the h, o, and m are bunched up together.

Here are the items I used to make this project. All supplies are Stampin' Up!

Stamp sets: defining alphabet and cute and cuddly

Cardstock: real red, going gray, whisper white, and basic black

Ink: real red, basic gray, going gray, and staz on black

Tools: paper piercing tool, big shot, scallop circles #2, 1 3/8" and 1 1/4" inch circle punches, 1/16 hole punch, large star and small star punches, and ticket corner punch
Accessories: silver brads, and bold brights real red brads

Fall Birthday Card

Let me first say, "Sorry!" I don't like it when I don't post something new in at least a weeks time. It went over that by a day or two. I hope you can forgive me. No, I haven't been sick. I am adjusting to a new schedule. I am now working again, of which, I have not worked outside of the home in 19 years. Crazy, huh?

The card I have made is very similar to the September 25th post, in case you want to compare it. I had stamped with a few other ladies that wanted to make the card that I had posted on the 25th. I made it along with them until it came time to stamp. I decided I would finish it later. Well, I finally sat down to play with it and this is what I came up with. I have a special young man in mind that will be receiving this card. He loves to hunt. Last year I made him a card with a deer on it. He also loves cake. This is why I chose to use the images below for this card.

Recipe for this card (all current SU! products):
Cardstock: taken with teal, really rust, more mustard, naturals ivory, autumn meadows DSP, and, chocolate chip
Stamp sets: crazy for cupcakes, teeny tiny wishes, and fun and fast notes
Ink: really rust, chocolate chip, and more mustard
Markers: taken with teal, more mustard, really rust, close to cocoa, and chocolate chip
Tools: big shot, sizzix scallop circles #2 and circles #2, paper piercer, large oval punch, and word window punch
Accessories: 5/8" very vanilla grosgrain ribbon

Autumn Harvest Anniversary Card

I wanted to do Gretchen Barron's weekend sketch challenge #103 this week. You can find her sketch by clicking here. I needed to make my husband an anniversary card. It will be 25 years on the 29th. Yep, I still love him. He has been very good to me.

It took me quite a bit of time to make this one. I love how it turned out in the end. I hope it looks manly. I think what makes me question it is putting the holes in the scallops. Men can have some frills too though, right?

I am also going to add this into the StampinUpLNStampers challenge for this week too. We are supposed to make a card using chalks. I broke out my stampin pastels and colored in my images and then used blender pens to enhance the chalks. I am very pleased. In fact, I can't wait to show my husband, but I have to wait a few days. :-(

Inspiration in Action 101

Sorry that I haven't posted any sooner. I am trying to find a job outside of my home. I have not worked in 19 years. Of course, I would love to just continue to stay at home, but we could really use an extra income right now. So please pray I can find something soon.

I decided to try Gretchen Barron's sketch. You can find it here. I really liked the sketch she came up with. I am also going to use it for the StampinUpLNStampers challenge #36 too. Like I had said before, I am going to try to do some kind of a sketch at least once a week. It is good for me to do. It keeps me motivated and I can always use cards that are finished and ready to be sent for some occasion.


I wanted to use the lovely flowers DSP for this project. I used the card stock that coordinates with it (rich razzleberry, crushed curry, old olive, and melon mambo). I used the #2 scallop circles die and the flower layers die in my Big Shot. The punches used on here are the 5 petal flower, 1/16" circle, and the scallop edge punches. I did a little bit of paper piercing too. For accessories I used 1/4" old olive grosgrain ribbon, ice circle (yellow) rhinestone, and earth elements (old olive) brads. I finished up with the white gel pen, crystal effects, and dazzling diamonds.

Wedding Shower Card

As you can probably already figure out, I had a wedding shower to go to recently. The bride-to- be chose basic black and regal rose for her colors.

I decided to use the Manhattan flower embossing folder. I cut it out and used a stamping sponge to add color. The Fifth Avenue Floral rose stamp was colored by spraying with water, using the aqua painter, and reinkers. Many demonstrators have shown how to do this technique on their blogs. Patty Bennett and Sandi MacIver are a couple of them.

I hope you all had a very nice 4th of July. We had a cookout with my daughter and her fiance' (she hates that word). Later in the afternoon we went to my niece's 16th birthday party.

Here we go once again, everyone. Are you all ready to go get out your stamps, ink, and most importantly your Big Shot? We really want to see more people join us in doing these challenges. Lately it doesn't seem like very many of you have been participating. The main reason for this design team is to inspire you to do this with us, not to look at what we have done. Yes, I realize your seeing what we have done gives you ideas, but if you don't play along what good are our ideas. I was showing my husband my blog the other day. I told him I had the most comments on my manly card. His suggestion was for me to make them more often. Well, I did try to do that this week, but I think this is more for the young men in our lives. I had fun using watercolor crayons and blender pens. My sky, well, let's just say I need to work on that more. It is ok, but it could be better. Since this was the Big Shot challenge, I used the top note die and the swirls scribbles sizzlet. Other tools I used were the scallop oval punch, the large oval punch, a stamping sponge, and the paper piercer. I used the stamp sets Boatloads of Love and Oval All. The card stock is real red, so saffron, brocade blue, bashful blue, DSP brocade blue and basic gray (hostess pack), and watercolor paper. The ink pads were real red and StazOn black. I also used the 5/8" grosgrain real red ribbon. For the life preservers I used the white gel pen.

Hello everyone. I hope this has been a very pleasant and uplifting week for all of you. I am sure some of you have had some craziness. That is life though, isn't it? Even in all of this God is good.

This weeks card sketch was fun for me. I decided to make this a double challenge though. I missed color sketch 124. I really wanted to do that sketch, but my kids were here and I felt spending as much time with them was more important than trying to get the sketch done. I also decided that this card was going to be made for my younger daughter. She and her boyfriend got engaged this past week. Yeah! I want to send them this card to congratulate them. I don't think people send very many cards for this occasion and decided I wanted to. Tell me what you think of the finished results.

Hello to all! Can you believe another week has went by. I wanted to try and kill 2 birds with 1 stone this time around. So this is going to be my mom's mother's day card, as well as, this week's challenge card.

Our challenge was to use anything that went with the Big Shot. I have used these items before for this challenge (top note die and manhattan flower embossing folder), but I haven't used the vellum. My mom loves flowers so I knew I wanted to use flowers for her card.

I ended up using a stamping sponge on the vellum with almost amethyst and rose red ink. I do like how it turned out. The color of card stock you use behind it could totally change the look though. I ended up using pink pirouette behind mine cut with the top note die cut (love this die cut). The other card stock is almost amethyst and DSP regal rose from the hostess pack.
